1951 Willie Mays Rookie Photograph - Sliding Into Home (PSA Type I)

Original Type I photograph of Willie Mays sliding into home plate during a game against the Philadelphia Phillies in 1951. Mays appears to out on the play as catcher Del Wilbur applies the tag while Giants first baseman Whitey Lockman looks on. A Brown Brothers credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with Mays' name written in pencil. Although no date is listed, the National League 75th Anniversary patch can be seen on Lockman's uniform. That patch was worn by each National League team during the 1951 season only. Mays made his Major League debut with the Giants on May 25, 1951, and helped lead the club to the National League pennant during his rookie campaign. The crystal-clear photo (8x5") remains in Excellent condition. This is a spectacular action shot of Mays dating from his historic 1951 rookie season.
