Addendum: Next season, Jean Ratelle’s No. 19 will be retired in recognition of his selection as one of the NHL’s Greatest 100.SEE RELATED LARRY BROOKS NY POST ARTICLE
No less than a Cold War test of global hockey supremacy, the 1972 Summit Series pitted the very best of NHL stars on Team Canada against the rising juggernaut of Team USSR. This beautiful Team Canada top, red with the classic white maple leaf cutout, was signed at a team reunion and this is special because it belonged to team member Jean Ratelle. The custom-made jersey by Ralph Edwards is NRMT with original hang tag, signed in black Sharpie by 24, with signatures averaging 8/10: Ratelle, Henderson, Park, Mikita, Savard, P. Esposito, T. Esposito, Mahovlich, Awrey, Stapelton, Martin, Johnston, Sinden and more. Expecting an easier time with their Soviet counterparts, Team Canada was forced to rally for victories in the final three games in Moscow as Paul Henderson's goal led the Canucks to capture the epic series victory.
