19th Century Darktown Battery Mechanical Bank

19th Century Darktown Battery Mechanical Bank

Collectible bank exudes character. Completely original and unrestored Darktown Battery is the product of masterful 19th century craftsmanship. Made completely of metal back in 1880's, the piece is a delightful depiction of three black baseball players – a pitcher, a batter, and a catcher standing atop a coin bank, which was deposited with coins through the catcher’s stomach. Still in full working condition, both pitcher and batter’s movements are mechanically manipulated. “Darktown Battery” on raised lettering, painted red, on front of podium with two baseball bats design. “Pat. Feb 2, 1875” engraved on bottom. Chipping to the paint on the players and top of bank just adds to its allure, but this bank has held up remarkably well with no restoration.
