"Candidates 1960" Book Signed by JFK & LBJ
First-edition copy of "Candidates 1960," published by Basic Books in 1959 presenting profiles of likely candidates for the next year's presidential race, is signed by John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson and Hubert Humphrey, two of whom of course became president and the other vice-president over the ensuing five years. The book, edited by veteran CBS correspondent Eric Sevareid with contributions from the poliitical reporters of the day was signed by JFK on the first page of the chapter "Pulitzer Prize Entry," LBJ on the first page of "The South Could Rise Again" and HHH on the first page of "Never Stop Running." In addition, there's also the signature of Sen. Stuart Symington on the first page of "The Missouri Compromise." JFK and Symington signatures are in blue pen, with JFK's one of the more carefree of his exemplar, grading EX-MT/NRMT. LBJ and HHH are written boldly in dark marker, with LBJ adding "Best wishes" to perhaps the best of his signatures we've seen. Both of these, and the Symington, grade NRMT. Dust jacket itself is VG but inside the book the pages are NRMT. First page was inscribed in 1960 by a past owner of the book. A fantastic find that is a great long term investment.
