Circa 1927 Babe Ruth at the Plate - Bustin' Babes Barnstorming Tour (PSA Type I)

Circa 1927 Babe Ruth at the Plate - Bustin' Babes Barnstorming Tour (PSA Type I)

Original Type I photograph capturing Babe Ruth at the plate during the famous “Bustin’ Babes and Larrupin’ Lous” postseason barnstorming tour. Ruth is pictured in his tour uniform as he puts on a show for the fans during pregame batting practice. A Brown Brothers credit stamp appears on the reverse. Images of Ruth in action from the tour are rare, as most picture him posing in staged shots for promotional purposes or with teammates. The Bustin' Babes and Larrupin' Lou's" barnstorming tour, which traversed the country in both 1927 and 1928, was one of the most successful postseason tours in baseball history, as thousands flocked to the ballpark at each venue to see the two greatest sluggers in the game. Ruth and Gehrig were the only two players on the tour who traveled. Each of their respective teams was rostered with local talent, which only added to the "grassroots" spirit of the tour. Most of the games were never completed because the fans often rushed the field in the later innings to personally meet their idols. The crystal-clear photo (7x5") displays two small creases in the white border areas and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
