Circa 1948 Satchel Paige "Rookie" Cleveland Indians (Arm Outstretched) Photograph (PSA Type I)

Circa 1948 Satchel Paige "Rookie" Cleveland Indians (Arm Outstretched) Photograph (PSA Type I)

Original Type I photograph of Hall of Fame pitcher Satchel Paige as a member of the Cleveland Indians. Paige is pictured gripping a baseball in his outstretched arm as he poses for the press. Three Brown Brothers credit stamps and a Brown Brothers label appear on the reverse. A handwritten pencil caption erroneously makes note that Paige is the first "Negro pitcher in Major League history" and is dated ca. 1948." (Paige was the first African American pitcher in the American League, not the Major Leagues.) 1948 marked Paige's "rookie" season with Cleveland and he helped the Indians capture their first World Championship since 1920. The photo (6.5x8.5") displays light-to-moderate creasing throughout. In Very Good condition overall. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archives. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
