Clark Griffith "Started 1887" Single Signed Baseball

Clark Griffith "Started 1887" Single Signed Baseball

The 19th Century beckons thanks to this rare, single-signed Official American League baseball from one of the earliest "old timer" collections and with an added accession date. Clark Griffith was a player, manager and owner in the major leagues, eventually becoming enshrined in the Cooperstown. This special memento features Griffith's notation: "Started 1887." There is some toning and the signature grades 6/10. The "Old Fox," as he was known, was the first in a line of Yankee captains, earning the esteemed title as a New York Highlander in the inaugural year of 1903. There have only been 14 others, most recently Derek Jeter prior to his retirement after the 2014 season.
