Collection of Five Erwin Rommel Signed Letters

Collection of Five Erwin Rommel Signed Letters

Collection of five Erwin Rommel letters, with four signed by Rommel and the fifth to Rommel and signed by his wife, Lucie. In chronological order, the first item is a letter dated 11-3-37 from Lucie to Rommel, who was then on a speaking tour following the spectacular success of his book "The Infantry Attack". The 8 1/2" x 11" letter reports on domestic affairs, including the fact that Rommel's favorite horse had sustained a minor injury, and is signed by Lucie Rommel. The second item is an 8-1-38 postcard with a photographic view of Salzburg, and the note is written in pencil to his wife Lucie. The text describes his tour in Austria, not long after the country was forcibly annexed by Germany. Item three is a postcard to his wife, also from Austria, and is dated 8-19-38. A brief note discusses Rommel's plan to return home within two days. The fourth item is a 9-9-39 postcard to Lucie, containing a historically significant message, written on both sides in Rommel's hand - "...if we manage to maintain this pace, the war will be over in the West by the end of October". The fifth and final item is an 8 1/2" x 11" letter in carbon copy, with signature also in carbon, from Rommel to a friend, dated 1-4-41 and offering Holiday wishes. All items include a complete and accurate translation and are historically footnoted by a previous owner. Overall condition is EX, with both letters creased horizontally for mailing.
