Early 1900s Nap Lajoie Wright & Ditson "Double Knob" Bat
This double knob bat was the specialty of bat makers Wright & Ditson in the early 1900s. The second knob on the handle, called the "shoulder," advertised that batters had a better grip and better bat control when they hit with their hands apart and the shoulder of the bat between their hands. If a player wanted to grasp the bat up on the handle he could use the shoulder in place of the knob and again strengthen his control and grip. These select bats were made from the best quality ash wood, and came in four styles. The name "Lajoie" was branded on the barrel of each of these bats, in honor of the star second baseman for the National and American Leagues. This bat, also with "Lajoie" in capital letters on the barrel, measures 33.75" long. The lettering on the barrel reads, "Wright & Ditson, Boston., Major League," and of course, "Lajoie." A few nicks but a real beauty.
