Early Rube Marquard Original Glass Plate Negative

Early Rube Marquard Original Glass Plate Negative

Original glass plate negative capturing Rube Marquard as a member of the New York Giants. Marquard is pictured leaping high in the air, simulating a catch, for the cameraman on the sideline. This is a wonderful pregame image, because in the background one can see other players warming up, as well as a photographer with a box camera taking a photo of a different player. Marquard's name is written along the right border. Although no date is listed, the uniform style shown here was worn by the Giants only in 1909. Marquard's first full season in the Major Leagues was 1909, making this one the earliest images we have of the future Hall of Famer. The negative (7x5") remains in Very Good to Excellent condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archives. (Please note: the positive image seen on our website is for illustrative purposes only and does not accompany the negative; only the negative is offered in this lot.)
