Eddie Collins at the Plate Original Glass Plate Negative

Eddie Collins at the Plate Original Glass Plate Negative

Original glass plate negative capturing Eddie Collins at bat during a game. The spectacular image pictures Collins in mid-swing, just after he made contact. Collins was one of the greatest hitters of the deadball era and the textbook batting form he exhibits here shows why. Game-action shots from this era, especially those picturing prominent Hall of Fame players at the plate, are scarce, making this an especially desirable example. Although no year is listed, image can be dated to the 1909 to 1914 time span because that was the six-year period in which the A's wore the pillbox style cap shown here. The negative (7x5") displays a few small areas of emulsion loss along the top border and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive.
