Gold Watch Fob Presented to Edward Townley in Honor of the 1869 Cincinnati Reds
Solid gold watch fob with diamond chip was originally presented to Edward Townley, treasurer and one of the founding officers of the Cincinnati Red Stockings. This beautiful piece of jewelry was given in honor of the Reds' perfect season in 1869, when they went 65-0 (the first and last time the feat was ever accomplished). Organized by Hall of Famer Harry Wright, the 1869 Red Stockings were baseball's first all-professional team, with Harry's brother George the star attraction. True pioneers of the time, the Red Stockings played games coast to coast, which hadn't been done before, and established trends in style that remain relevant today. The team's historical importance to the sport cannot be overstated; they were the foundation upon which modern baseball is built.
