Honus Wagner Cigar Box

Honus Wagner Cigar Box

Vintage Honus Wagner cigar box, as rare or rarer than the Honus Wagner T206 card. Dating is a little tricky as, although he is pictured with the Louisville team, these cigars were put out a decade or so after Wagner was with Louisville. There is a 1909 date stamp on the bottom of the box so we know that it was at least 10 years after he played for Louisville, with one explanation being that these cigars were made in Kentucky, thus a Louisville photo was used. Of course it also begs the question that, if Wagner was against smoking (accounting for the rarity of his T206 cards), why did he endorse cigars? Wood box measures 9x5.25x2.5", inside label with his photo is very nice and there is some minor staining and wear; overall Very Good condition. This is a really nice example - we know of less than 10 that exist and this is one of the nicer ones.
