Iconic James Naismith Photograph (PSA Type II)

Iconic James Naismith Photograph (PSA Type II)

Vintage photograph of James Naismith as he proudly poses holding a basketball. This is the definitive image of Naismith as he was the sole inventor of the game of basketball, which is now one of the most popular sports in the world. As noted by the handwritten caption on the reverse, Naismith was serving as the Kansas basketball coach at the time this photo was taken. Naismith was the coach of Kansas from 1898 to 1907, but he served as a professor at the school until his retirement in 1937, two years prior to his death at the age of seventy-eight. Five Brown Brothers credit stamps appear on the reverse, along with several handwritten editorial notations. The photo (8x10") displays light-to-moderate creasing, tape remnants on the reverse, and a small area of surface paper loss near the bottom right corner. In Good condition overall. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type II Authentic.
