Jack Johnson and His Wife Original Glass Plate Negative

Jack Johnson and His Wife Original Glass Plate Negative

Original glass negative capturing Jack Johnson and his wife Lucille (nee Cameron) at the races in Paris, France, circa 1915. Johnson and his wife were living abroad at the time because Johnson skipped bail after violating the Mann Act (he drove his wife, who was white, across state lines). Lucille was one of Johnson's many "wives" over the years, the two were together from 1912 to 1924, at which time she divorced him for infidelity. The negative (7x5") displays a small chip and crack in the lower left corner, as well as a few tiny areas of emulsion loss. In Good to Very Good condition overall. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive.
