Jack Johnson and Wife at the Races in Paris Photograph (PSA Type I)

Jack Johnson and Wife at the Races in Paris Photograph (PSA Type I)

Original Type I photograph capturing Jack Johnson and his wife Lucille (nee Cameron), circa 1915. As noted by the printed caption on the reverse, the photo captures the nattily attired couple at the races in Paris, France. Johnson and his wife were living abroad at the time because Johnson skipped bail after violating the Mann Act, by driving his wife, who was white, across state lines. Lucille was one of Johnson's many "wives" over the years, the two were together from 1912 to 1924, at which time she divorced him for infidelity. A Brown Brown Brothers credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with the aforementioned typed caption. The photo (4.5x6.25") has been slightly trimmed along all four borders and displays light creasing throughout. In Good to Very Good condition overall. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
