This photo depicts the two combatants of the 1960 Presidential Election: President John F. Kennedy and former Vice President Richard Nixon. Under Dwight Eisenhower's administration, Nixon had helped plan an overthrow of Fidel Castro's regime in Cuba that would come to be known as the Bay of Pigs invasion. Just three months into his presidency, Kennedy was tasked with carrying out the mission. Nixon is pictured here advising the President prior to the invasion.
