Marilyn Monroe Signed Beauty Salon Receipt
One wonders if the hip-waxing Marilyn received at the Elizabeth Arden Salon in New York City, as documented on this signed receipt from the salon, was performed before Marilyn's famous "skirt blowing" scene for "Seven Year Itch." For a 1950s sex goddess baring more and more skin with each film, no detail could be overlooked, especially when that skirt would rise hip-high. Receipt is dated only "3-21" so we're left to guess that since Marilyn was in New York -- with her address penciled in as "444 East 57th St." -- it could have been while doing that 1954 movie, or perhaps when she returned in early 1955, after separating from Joe DiMaggio, and joined the Actors Studio, in pursuit of becoming a serious actress, or during her marriage to playwright Arthur Miller in 1956. In any event, the pink, 5.5x7.75" receipt is a revealing, to say the least, glimpse into Marilyn's cosmetic routine. The valuable signature "Marilyn Monroe" in pencil is a tad faded but quite readable, grading 7/10. Description of services rendered is "Out Treatment -- Wax to Hips" and the cost 30 bucks. Receipt is NRMT.
