Original Pencil Sketch of Lucien Bonaparte by Francois Gerard
With total attention to the smallest detail, artist Francois Gerard captured Lucien Bonaparte in full regalia as the President of the Council of 500. Lucien was the rebellious younger brother of Napoleon who did not relish obeying his older sibling. Gerard was born in Rome in 1770. At age twelve he moved to Paris. He studied in France under Pajou, Brenet, and finally entered David's Studio where he became his favorite pupil. He is most famous for his drawings of women. Gerard died in1837. The sketch is in overall VF condition with a piece of the upper left corner missing. It does not encroach on the image of Lucien. An historic and important sketch signed and dated 1799.
