Sketches of the Country, Character and Costume of Portugal and Spain

Sketches of the Country, Character and Costume of Portugal and Spain

It is often said that a picture tells a thousand words. This would ring true as the story of life in Spain and Portugal in the early 19th Century is put forth on fifty-two hand colored aquatints (bound out of order), that measure14 x 10 1/2 ". These observations were made during the Campaign and along the route of the British Army in 1808-1809. The accompanying text is written in English and French by William Bradford, and published by Howlett and Bremmer, Fifth Street, Soho, London. Some binding wear and some offsetting of plates onto text does not diminish this excellent copy of this rare and important color plate production.
