The Life of Napoleon By Sloane - Eight Volumes

The crowning jewel to any Napoleon library or collection would have to be this eight volume compilation of "The Life of Napoleon" special extra illustrated copy by William Milligan Sloane. Publisher, The Century Co., New York, 1896. Sloane gained worldwide recognition in 1896 when he led the fight to have the Olympics brought back to world recognition from its ancient origins in Greece. A history professor at Princeton, he researched tirelessly to document each facet of the Emperor's life. Each volume is replete with over a hundred illustrations in black and white and full color taken from original engravings and prints. Each is gilded and is inserted in its' own hard sleeve. The front and back covers are beautifully embossed and bear the Bonaparte Crest. The inner covers and opposite pages are satin-clad. The complete set of eight comprise over 2,400 pages. All are in general excellent condition except for three volumes that show some splitting between the covers and the spine.
