Turn of the Century Eight-Spoke Football Helmet and Morril's Nose Guard (2)
Here's a seldom-found example of very early football equipment. The Morrill nose guard was patented in 1891 and this particular example still has some of its original rubber feel and is not totally hardened. The helmet has retained its original strap, although a portion of the mouthpiece has been bitten off. The helmet, which bears no manufacturer's name, is a very big adult size. The straps show cracking from use as they are not dry. The Interior is 85% intact and the entire gear grades EX. It's fascinating to note that this was the predecessor of the game's current face cage.
