1809 James Madison Signed Handwritten Letter to Napoleon (10x16")

A marvelous and fascinating document is this hand written letter to Napoleon, signed by the fourth U.S. President, James Madison. Napoleon is formally addressed and the letter is signed, "Your good friend, James Madison." The signature itself grades a 9.5/10. Letter is elegantly inked completely in black fountain pen and serves to congratulate the Emperor on his son's wedding: "To our great and food friend His Imperial and Royal Majesty the Emporer of the French, King of Italy and Protector of the Confederation of the Rhine. I have received your Imperial and Royal Majesty's Letter announcing the marriage of your much loved son the Prince Eugene Napoleon with the Princess Auguste Amelie of Bavaria which was celebrated at Munich on the 14th of the preceding January. From the interest we take as your Majesty very justly supposes in the events which contribute to your happiness, we pray your Majesty to receive our cordial congratulations on this occasion…" Dated March 15, 1809. Original folds, restored horizontally in the middle. VG.
