1901 Ohio Wesleyan Baseball Champions - Earliest Known Branch Rickey Uniformed Photograph
A potential piece of baseball history is up for grabs to the savvy collector, as this is perhaps the earliest known photograph of Branch Rickey as a player. The 11x17" photo of the 1901 Ohio Wesleyan University Championship baseball team features Rickey sitting bottom left next to a black team mascot... incredible foreshadowing of the enormous achievement Rickey would accomplish later in life by signing Jackie Robinson to the Dodgers. The photo is mounted to thick backing board and contains a typewritten roster affixed to the bottom right. There are some tears and creasing on the mount, but the photograph is in excellent condition.
