1988 Bronze Medal from the Games of the XXIV Olympiad
Exquisite bronze medal from the 1988 Games of the XXIV Olympiad held in Seoul Korea awarded to Kim Gallagher of the U.S. in the women’s 800m race. The events are marked and remembered for Ben Johnson beating Carl Lewis in the 100m dash. The gold medal was taken away from Johnson two days later after he tested positive for steroid use. “Flo Jo” (Florence Griffith Joyner) won four medals in these events. It was a record setting Olympics as far as countries and athletes involved. The first Summer Olympics since 1972 (Munich) in which there was no organized boycott of the games by any country. Front of medal is Roman goddess with Coliseum in background. Back is the symbol of peace, the Dove and Olympic rings. “Athletics Women 800m” is engraved into the edge. LOA.
