George Brown Medal Collection including His 1936 Olympic Judges Ribbon and Badge
Medals, ribbons, and pins awarded to and collected by George V. Brown. Brown was a noted track umpire in the 1920s and 1930s, and a highly influential person in sports. His brother Walter was owner of the Boston Garden, Bruins and Celtics. The collection includes 21 medals and ribbons for track and field judging. The earliest appears to be from 1921, and they range from local Boston Area meets to Nationals to international competitions. Notable among these are his badges from the 1932 (ribbon missing) and 1936 Olympics and the 1936 British Empire Games. There are an additional 18 pins, medals and ribbons presented to or collected by Brown, including several for hockey events and the Ice Capades. Also included in this lot is a small bag of 1960s-70s Olympic, NBA, NFL and other pins. Finally, there is a 2” x 3 ?” black and white photo of a Roosevelt for President advertising truck. Most of the items in this lot are VG. They show normal wear for their age, with the ribbons having folds, creases, etc. Obtained directly from the Brown Family.
