Pair of 19th Century Baseball Shaving Mugs

Pair of 19th Century Baseball Shaving Mugs

Well before six-blade disposable cartridges and electric shavers saved the mugs of many a man (and probably a few circus women, too!), men used to get their daily shaves from barbers. These professionals sharpened up their single blade straight edge razors, foamed up their clients' jaws and proceeded to carefully…very carefully…perform their duties. Men who were regulars had their own mugs emblazoned with their names and whatever emblems they desired. As these were the formative years for the new popular sport of baseball, it was only proper to have baseball themed shaving mugs since men were still men while at the barber shop. A soap disc would be inserted in the bottom and would provide dozens of shaves. Each of this pair of porcelain mugs have a baseball theme complete with crossed bats and baseballs. Each is 3.5" high with gold lettering and trim. If your name is “Wm. F. Kelly” or “W. J. Mading” you’re in luck! Chair number two is now open. Both mugs are in Excellent overall condition and represent a time when the men of the local town would populate their barber shop for their daily shave and some hot stove talk.
