Two Red Grange Awards Obtained Directly from Grange

Two Red Grange Awards Obtained Directly from Grange

Straight from the hands of "The Galloping Ghost" himself, these two honors from the 1970s commemorate the halfback who starred for the University of Illinois and Chicago Bears, and was a major force in the legitimization of the National Football League. There's a certificate from the Illinois Sesquicentennial Commission with gold seal signed by Governor Samuel H. Shapiro, and a 14" x 14" wood-based, fan-generated award in the shape of an interstate sign with a silver-colored metal football protruding from the center and a plaque which reads: "TO RED GRANGE MR. FOOTBALL OF YESTERYEAR STILL MAKING HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THE GAME BY BEING ALWAYS COMPLIMENTARY IN HIS VIVID DESCRIPTIONS OF THE PLAYERS TRULY A SPORTSMAN OF THE MIKE OUR ALL-AMERICAN ANNOUNCER - FANS OF MAGNOLIA, ARK." This was a reference to Grange's post-career broadcasting gig as he broadcast Bears and college football games for NBC.
