1909 Jack Johnson vs. Al Kaufman Type I Glass Plate Negative by the Dana Studio

1909 Jack Johnson vs. Al Kaufman Type I Glass Plate Negative by the Dana Studio

A glass plate negative, this depicts Jack Johnson fighting Al Kaufman in a Heavyweight match, a precursor to the "Fight of the Century." Kaufman was one of a group of boxers branded with the moniker, "The Great White Hope," as he was Jewish and known for being quite good looking. There is minor discoloration at the border and small areas of missing emulsion. From Dana Studios, the "Charles Conlon" of boxing photography, these 5x7" to 7x9" treasures combine to form the greatest find of its kind.
