1910 Johnson vs. Jeffries "Battling in the Ring" Type I Glass Plate Negative by the Dana Studio
An artifact from one of boxing's most historic bouts, this glass plate negative shows Jack Johnson fighting James J. Jeffries in the Ring in Reno for the "Battle of the Century," in which Johnson won the title to become the first African American Heavyweight Champion of the World. Written in fountain pen is, "Box 46 8 Round. Jeffries - Johnson Reno." Very light oxidizing of the silver emulsion and a few small areas missing image. From Dana Studios, the "Charles Conlon" of boxing photography, these 5x7" to 7x9" treasures represent the greatest find of their kind.
