1910 Johnson vs. Jeffries "Battling in the Ring" Type I Glass Plate Negative by Dana Studios

1910 Johnson vs. Jeffries "Battling in the Ring" Type I Glass Plate Negative by Dana Studios

An amazing rarity, this glass plate negative is of Jack Johnson fighting James J. Jeffries in the Ring in Reno for the "Battle of the Century," after which Johnson won the title to become the first African American Heavyweight Champion of the World. It has a cartouche from the Dana studio engraved in the image and "Jeffires v. Johnson." Missing the right edge corner, which will not impact reproduction of the image, this comes from Dana Studios, the "Charles Conlon" of boxing photography, and these 5x7" to 7x9" treasures represent the greatest find of their kind.
