1936 Joe Louis v Max Schmeling Original Boxing Program Cover Painting by Grant Powers

1936 Joe Louis v Max Schmeling Original Boxing Program Cover Painting by Grant Powers

This is the actual cover art for Louis and Schmeling's first classic fight at Yankee Stadium. The masterful image shows the two combatants going at it in the ring. Done by the fine illustrator Grant Powers, it is a marvelous gouache on artist’s board, measuring 20x15”. It shows some wear to the edges and corner damage and there are some pinholes at bottom center, but otherwise the field of the artwork itself is in beautiful condition.
