1951 Golden Gloves 14kt Gold Medal
A 26 gram 14kt gold Golden Gloves medal awarded in 1951 to Julius C. Griffin. The front shows two boxers sparring with the words "Golden Gloves" above and "The News Welfare Association" below. The back is etched with "Julius C. Griffin / 175 Lb. Sub-novice / 1951". Griffin, a Brooklyn-based fighter, would later go on to have a modest heavyweight boxing career, winning the 1953 and 1954 New York Daily News Golden Gloves' open championship and the 1953 New York Tournament of Champions. Condition is NRMT. Marked on verso 14kt.
