Harry S. Truman Piano Photo w/ Letters
Comic photo of President Harry S. Truman sitting on top of a piano, singing along with female pianist. Photo was used by the <i>Chicago Daily Times</i> as a basis for a “friendly” political cartoon. Comes with two letters referring to the cartoon, Harry calls it a “dinger”. Both are on White House stationary and come with a matching postmarked envelope. One of the letters (September 29, 1945) is signed “Harry” the other (April 4, 1949) is signed with full name. 1945 letter with great historical content: [in reference to an editorial on an alibi for the Japs and something the Prince of Wales did to anger him] “I didn’t use quite the coarse lanquage that the Battery did.” On the reverse of the photo, is a handwritten explanation on the meaning of the photo, signed by Russ Stewart, which also creates context for the Truman letters. Letters are EX-MT, autographs NRMT. The photo is VG+. Letter measures 7x9", envelope is 7.5x4.75”.
