Truman Letters Regarding Senator Joe McCarthy & General McArthur (3)

Great historic content contained within all three, penned on White House stationary with matching envelopes, signed by Harry S. Truman. The first, dated April 17, 1951 thanks “Russ” for sending Bill Kent’s story with regards to an important statement made by McCarthy. Truman makes this prophetic and damning comment: “[McCarthy] will be very sorry for that statement before this show is entirely over.” The second, dated April 26, 1951 discusses the replacement of General MacArthur, then goes on to make this crucial statement of philosophy: “Under our constitutional system military commanders are subordinate to civil authority.” The third, dated July 10, 1952, comments about MacArthur’s 1952 speech delivered to the delegates. Overall condition of the letters is EX-MT, with signatures grading NRMT. Only pieces showing wear are the envelopes. Each letter measures 7x9” and the envelopes 7.5x4.75”.
